LEGENDARY CLAY SHOOTING

SPORTING CLAYS - TRAP - SKEET - 5 STAND

Sporting Clays is a form of clay pigeon shooting, often described as “golf with a shotgun” because a typical course consists of 10 to 15 different shooting stations laid out over natural terrain, which each station (or hole) having its own unique presentation.  Sporting clays offers a great variety of trajectories, angles, speeds, elevations, distances, and target sizes. Every course is different, much like golf!

Eye-twisting target presentations as well as the variety of models of clay targets make the sport extremely interesting. Our sporting clays course operates using a TargetKey counting system, which counts how many clays you launch and allows shooters to utilize any combination of the clay target presentations – whether it be singles, report pairs, or true pairs. The system also offers a delay feature for solo shooters.

Our course is designed for shooters ranging from beginners to more seasoned experiences and has a total of 14 stations.

We are working to improve our experience in the coming year with two courses designed for beginners and competitor shooters alike. The combined course has 14 stations with four automatic clay target throwers at each station. The A’s and B’s on the combined course are easy and the C’s and D’s are of medium difficulty. The combined course has relatively easy to medium shots with a lot of presentations that simulate wing-shooting. This is a great course for a mixed group of both experienced and novice shooters.

Trap vs Skeet vs Sporting Clays

Skeet utilizes two machines for presentations from eight shooting stations. The targets emerge from a high house ten feet above ground on the left and a low house 3-1/2 feet above ground on the right. Targets face one another forty yards apart and pass fifteen feet above a crossing stake set twenty yards from the shooting stations. Shooting stations are arranged around an arc running from one house to the other. A round of skeet consists of twenty-five shots, beginning with a high-house bird at station one, then a low house bird, then a double at one, two, six, and seven.

In trap, the targets are thrown from a single automatic trap quartering away from the shooter at various angles. One to five shooters move through five positions, shooting 5 shots at each – totaling twenty five targets in one round. We recommend trap for beginning shooters and novices.

Novice Trap utilizes one spring-loaded hand machine for presentations straight from the shooting box. The targets emerge from left side of the shooting box flying straight in front of the shooter, making this the perfect beginner practice range to get acclimated with clay shooting. Two people are needed for this activity as one person is needed to work the spring-loaded hand machine along with the person shooting the target. Novice Clays is open year-round and offers 6 shooting stands allowing many shooters the options to enjoy all at once. Targets must be biodegradable and pre-purchased from our pro shop located at the main lodge.

Super Sporting Clays - At McMiller, visitors often inquire about the differences between regular Sporting Clays and Super Sporting Clays. While both offer exciting shooting experiences, Super Sporting Clays takes it up a notch with more clay machines and diverse presentations to challenge your skills. This advanced format typically starts with three targets, followed by a mix of report pairs and doubles, making it a fun and varied experience. Just remember, as a 100-bird event, it requires a bit more time and ammunition, so come prepared to enjoy the challenge!

5 Stand - Experience the thrill of 5 Stand, a shooting sport that combines the excitement of sporting clays with the convenience of five dedicated shooting positions. With six to eight clay throwers, participants take turns aiming at ten targets from each stand, totaling 50 targets per round. It's an efficient way to enjoy a challenging shooting experience without the extensive walking required on a full course. Our 5 Stand house is enclosed and heated for comfort during the colder months, and in summer, we open the windows for a refreshing environment in the shade.

3D Archery

LEGENDARY ARCHERY SHOOTING

3D ARCHERY & CROSSBOW & PRACTICE FIELD

3D archery is a modern style of outdoor archery, where the participants shoot three-dimensional life-sized animal targets. Archers hike along a trail and face challenges, designed as different bowhunting scenarios.

This style of archery introduces different challenges than the traditional style, like distance judging and partially hidden targets, but also requires high-level bow shooting skills.

To ensure fun and safety for everyone - shooters on our 3D Archery Range can use only field tips on their arrows!

Block targets placed at 10, 35, and 45 yards are available for sighting in your crossbow along with three designated benches to help assist with the sight in.

McMiller Sports Center continues to grow in this industry by adding additional targets, towers, and suspension connection bridges at different elevations to simulate an even more realistic hunting environment.

League shooting is available in the early spring and early fall. To join or find out more information, check out our League Page.
